Treating Expression Lines: Dysport®
Soften frown lines. Refresh your expression. Naturally you.
Dysport temporarily relaxes the muscles responsible for these lines. At Decatur Dermatology & Aesthetics, our approach starts with understanding your face and your goals, then planning treatment with care and restraint.
Understanding Dysport
Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription injectable made from botulinum toxin type A. It reduces activity in selected muscles to soften the expression lines they create.
It works differently from dermal fillers: Dysport addresses muscle movement, while fillers address concerns such as lost volume.
Typical Treatment Areas for Dysport
Dysport is FDA-approved to temporarily improve moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults younger than 65.
Other areas, such as forehead lines, crow’s feet, neck bands and “TMJ” (jaw muscles) may be considered following an individual assessment. These are off-label uses, meaning they are outside Dysport’s FDA-approved cosmetic indication.
Dr. Baender will discuss which areas are appropriate for treatment and what you can reasonably expect.
Results and Longevity
Initial improvement: typically within 2–3 days you will experience the onset of the effects, with full effects being realized by two weeks.
Duration: improvement in frown lines typically last for 3-4 months. Individual results vary depending on metabolism.
Appearance: the goal is softer lines and a refreshed expression, with treatment tailored to your face.
Dysport is temporary. We’ll discuss maintenance based on your response and preferences.
What to Expect During Your Treatment Visit
Your visit begins with a discussion of your goals, medical history, and previous injectable treatments. Dr. Baender will assess your facial movement and explain the proposed treatment.
Small amounts of Dysport are injected into selected muscles using a fine needle. The injections generally take about 10–20 minutes; the full appointment may take longer.
There is usually little to no downtime. Temporary redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising can occur. We’ll explain aftercare and what to watch for before you leave.
Cost and Insurance Coverage of Dysport
Dysport treatment for cosmetic expression lines is generally not covered by insurance.
Your treatment cost will depend on the areas treated and the amount of product needed. We’ll review the proposed cost with you before treatment. Payment is made in the office.

Whether you’re ready for treatment or simply exploring, we’re happy to talk it through.
